Who are we?

Behind Smålandstorpet, the small-scale country hotel in Lilla Fällan, are us, Maria and Johan Haggård - we are a couple who have transformed a family farm into a sanctuary for adults seeking tranquility, quality and nature-based experiences. Since 2016, with a gentle hand and strong conviction, we have created something that is so much more than just an accommodation - we have created a way of life.

We live in the manor house on the farm, right next to the three guesthouses. Here we are - ready to light the sauna, deliver the breakfast basket at dawn or recommend that little gem in the forest that is not on the map. For us, hosting is not a service, but a relationship.

I (Maria) run Smålandstorpet full time. My background is in social care and I used to work for the government, but I chose to follow my longing for something more personal, more real. Now I'm the hub of the business - the one who makes sure that every bed is perfectly made, that the kitchens are spotless and that the guest feels seen from the first moment.

I (Johan) am a trained forester and manage our 290 hectare forest property and work part-time in a forestry company. I cook, bake and help out where needed!

Nature & Sustainability

our core values

The silence of the forest

Goats graze in the meadows and it's not unusual to spot a moose, a deer or a fox sneaking past. On clear evenings, the starry sky sparkles in a way that city lights can never match.

SUSTAINABILITY HOSPITALITY

We have Nordic Swan Ecolabeled floors, locally made Hilding beds, environmentally friendly cleaning products, waste sorting and compost. Our photovoltaic system produces more than half of the electricity used.

PERSONALIZED HOSPITALITY

With only eight beds, we can take care of every guest - heat the sauna by the lake, carry out the breakfast basket at dawn or tip about a hidden Småland farm shop. We want you to feel at home, but far away from everyday life.

Responsibility for the future

We are passionate about creating an experience where every detail counts. The beds are made in Sweden, the floors are Nordic Swan Ecolabeled, the cleaning products are environmentally friendly and the energy comes largely from our own solar cells. With us, sustainability is not a trend - it is a basic principle. Living at Smålandstorpet means living in harmony with the environment - without compromising on comfort.

But perhaps it is the sense of calm that is the greatest luxury here. Goats graze in the meadow. The starry sky stretches across the roofs. Sometimes a moose appears, sometimes a fox sneaks past. And the forest is always there - quiet, safe and full of breathing space. This is exactly what we longed for when they started Smålandstorpet. A place where time can pass slowly. Where the guest can rest. Where the simple can be enough.

We saw a need: in a fast-paced society, we wanted to offer the opposite. A resting space, a breath, an invitation to land, feel and just be.

Our initiatives

SUSTAINABILITY WORK

At Smålandstorpet we strive to combine relaxation with environmental awareness. We are proud to contribute to a sustainable future and welcome you to be part of our eco-friendly journey. Here are some of our sustainability initiatives:

Nordic Swan Ecolabel materials

We have chosen Nordic Swan Ecolabel flooring in kitchens, bedrooms and public areas, ensuring that our materials meet strict environmental requirements. Two of our three kitchens are also Swan-labeled.

Locally made beds

Our beds is from the well-known, Nordic Swan Ecolabeled brand Hilding - a choice that combines high sleeping comfort with sustainability and local manufacturing.

Eco-friendly cleaning products

We wash with Nordic Swan Ecolabeled, surfactant-free detergent and let the laundry dry naturally - outdoors when the weather permits, otherwise indoors with a dehumidifier - to reduce environmental impact.

Waste sorting and composting

There is a well-organized waste sorting station, as a guest you have the opportunity to easily compost your food waste - to contribute to a more sustainable stay.

Solar energy and electric car charging

We have invested in a photovoltaic system that produces more than half of the electricity used in our houses. For our guests, we offer the possibility to charge electric cars at a cost per kW.
