New Year's in the Countryside—in Your Own Little House
There’s something truly special about spending the last days of the year in the countryside. Here at Smålandstorpet, you’ll stay in one of our individually decorated cottages, each with its own kitchen and plenty of space for two. Right outside your door, you’ll find the forest, our hiking trails, and the little lake.
You don't have to worry about any set times or dress up for a big New Year's Eve party. If you want to spend the whole evening enjoying a delicious dinner by candlelight with a glass of bubbly, that's perfectly fine. Maybe it's precisely that simplicity that makes celebrating New Year's Eve a little extra special.
Cook a really delicious New Year's dinner together
New Year's Eve is the perfect occasion to put a little extra care into dinner. Treat yourselves to something really delicious, set a nice table, and make cooking part of the experience. All of our cottages have their own kitchens, so you can prepare your New Year's Eve dinner exactly the way you want.
Some ideas for a delicious New Year's Eve menu:
- For an appetizer: Toast with roe, crème fraîche, and finely chopped red onion, or a creamy mushroom soup.
- For the main course: Oven-baked fish with butter sauce or a nice cut of meat with potato gratin and roasted vegetables.
- For dessert: Chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream or a simple panna cotta with berries.
If you want to make it really easy, you can prepare parts of the dinner at home and just put the finishing touches on the food when you arrive. There’s no need to rush here. The New Year’s Eve dinner can easily take the whole evening.
End the year with a walk in the Småland forest
There’s hardly anything more wonderful than getting out into nature after a few days of good food and Christmas celebrations. Around Smålandstorpet, we have several of our own hiking trails that take you through the forests, past small lakes, and across moss-covered fields.
Take a short walk, or pack a thermos with something hot and head out on a slightly longer hike. The winter landscape can look very different in Småland. Some years, the snow lies white among the spruce trees; other years, it’s green moss, frost, and fog that give the forest its very special winter atmosphere. No matter the weather, it’s nice to get outside and get some exercise.
Welcome the New Year at your own pace
New Year’s Eve doesn’t have to be an evening packed with activities. Maybe you’d like to play a board game, read a book, or just sit around the dinner table for a long time and talk about the past year. Break out a glass of sparkling wine at midnight, toast the New Year, and enjoy spending time together. The great thing about celebrating New Year’s Eve at Smålandstorpet is that you get to decide for yourselves how the evening will unfold.
Start New Year's Day with a leisurely morning
Perhaps the best thing about traveling over New Year’s is not having to do much the day after. Sleep in, brew some good coffee, and take your time on the first morning of the year. Maybe a walk through the woods sounds appealing, or perhaps you’ll spend the morning indoors enjoying a long breakfast.
You can also order breakfast from us—including Johan’s homemade bread—which will be delivered right to your door. We think that’s a great way to start the new year.
