Four Hiking Trails – Four Nature Experiences in Småland
We have prepared four different trails.
The green, blue, and red trails can be combined (starting from Smålandstorpet) to create a longer hike.
No matter which route you choose, you'll find peace and quiet, birdsong, and opportunities to enjoy nature.
Through the pine forest
The scent of a sun-warmed pine forest is something many people associate with a Swedish summer.
This trail winds through an old coniferous forest where tall pine trees dominate the landscape. The ground is covered with soft moss and blueberry bushes.
In late summer, there are often still blueberries to be found, and in the fall, the first mushrooms start to appear along the trail.
That's often when you realize just how quiet it can actually be.

Around Lake Fällesjön
This is one of our most popular hikes!
The trail takes you around beautiful Lake Fällesjön, which lies in the middle of the forest.
In some sections, the trail runs close to the water, while in others it winds through the dense coniferous forests of Småland.
If you bring your camera, there are plenty of great photo opportunities along the way!
Many guests choose to bring coffee and pastries and sit down to enjoy the view of the lake.
There's no stress here.
Just nature.

This is the section where you can experience the Småland wilderness.
If you're lucky, you might spot a roe deer, a few cranes, or a large moose in the distance.
Why not pack a backpack with a snack and enjoy a long break along the way?
This isn't a hike you want to rush through.

Through the Old Forest
The Blue Trail through the Old Forest is a hike full of variety. Here, you can experience the tranquility that characterizes the forests of Småland, while the trail offers diverse natural scenery and beautiful views.
The hike winds through an old pine forest where tall, gnarled pines have stood for a long time. The sun’s rays filter down between the trunks, creating a sense of calm that makes it easy to slow down.
The trail continues uphill over a few small hills where the terrain becomes more undulating. Here, the landscape opens up between the trees, and you get a sense of how the Småland forest landscape undulates. In late summer, blueberries and lingonberries are often found along the trail.
Toward the end, the trail leaves the dense forest and passes through a more open agricultural landscape with fields, pastures, and a few farms.
For those who want to go further, the trail connects to the Fällesjön loop, making it easy to combine both hikes into a longer hike through forests and lakeside scenery.

The blue trail is perfect for a leisurely morning walk or a relaxing afternoon in nature.
Nature changes with the seasons
One of the great things about hiking in Småland is that the same trail feels different depending on when you hike it. The landscape changes from month to month, and of course, every season has its own charm.
Spring—the forest comes to life
When spring arrives, the forest fills with birdsong. The birch trees begin to bud, the ground turns green, and the first wood anemones appear.
The air feels fresh and crisp—and the temperature is often perfect for longer hikes.
It’s also a time when the trails are unusually quiet. Many people appreciate being able to enjoy nature almost entirely to themselves.
Summer—deep-green forests and long days
Summer is the classic hiking season.
The forest is at its greenest, and the long, light evenings mean you can head out even late in the day.
Lingonberry bushes spread out beneath the pine trees, and by late summer, the first berries are ripe.
After a summer hike, there are few things better than a swim or a sauna by Lake Fällesjön.
September – Our Favorite Month
If we had our way, September might just be the most beautiful month for hiking.
The summer heat often lingers even as the air becomes fresher.
The forest is slowly beginning to change color. The birch trees are turning golden yellow, and the beautiful heather is in bloom.
In addition, it's much quieter than during the height of summer.
For many of our guests, September is the perfect time to experience Småland!
Fall – Colors and Mushrooms
In the fall, the forest becomes a landscape bursting with color.
Yellow birches, reddish-brown blueberry bushes, and dark-green spruce trees create a stunning contrast.
It's also the time of year when many people take the opportunity to go mushroom hunting here along the forest roads.
Even if you don't pick mushrooms, the fall forest is a wonderful experience!
Wildlife Along the Trails
Småland is known for its vast forests and rich wildlife.
With a little luck, you might get to see:
- roe deer
- moose
- crane
- short-toed snake eagle
- spillkråka
- squirrel
- hare
Sometimes you only see the tracks—a moose track on the soft forest road or fresh roe deer tracks along the trail.
Coffee Break in the Woods
In Sweden, there's a word that's really important: fika.
Along our trails, there are many lovely spots where you can sit down for a while and enjoy a coffee break.
A cup of coffee, a sandwich, or maybe a cinnamon bun often tastes better out in nature.
You can borrow a backpack, a seat pad, and a thermos at Smålandstorpet; you can easily buy snacks in nearby Vaggeryd—perhaps at the lovely Vaggeryds Gårdscafé.
Many guests say that it was the break in the woods that was the highlight of their day.
Sitting by a small lake, listening to the wind, and just enjoying the peace and quiet.
