Husqvarna Museum - A journey through 300 years of Swedish ingenuity

Are you curious about Swedish industrial history and love to discover the stories behind our most iconic products? In the heart of one of Sweden's most historically significant industrial areas, the museum offers a fascinating journey through over three centuries of technology, design and everyday innovation.

From weapons workshop to world-renowned motorcycle factory

Husqvarna's history dates back to 1689, when a royal rifle factory was established at Huskvarna Falls. Over time, hydropower became a driving force behind development, and the company grew into one of the world's most diverse industrial groups. Guns were eventually replaced by sewing machines, household appliances, meat grinders, bicycles and - not least - the famous motorcycles that reaped victories on international motocross tracks.

At Husqvarna Museum, you can follow this entire development - from muskets to robotic lawnmowers - in one inspiring environment. The museum is housed in the old armory from the 1800s and is beautifully located next to Huskvarnaån and its mighty waterfall.

A museum for tech geeks and nostalgics alike

With 2,400 square meters of exhibition space, the Husqvarna Museum offers a rich and varied experience. It features thousands of objects, from early weapon models to modern garden machinery, sewing machines, household products, bicycles and motorcycles. The structure of the museum makes it easy to follow both the technological development of the company and the people who once worked in the factories.

If you grew up with a Husqvarna sewing machine or remember the smell of freshly cut wood from a chainsaw, you'll recognize it - but even those who have never heard of Husqvarna before will be fascinated by how one company can reflect Sweden's history on so many levels.

Some highlights of the museum:

  • Coats of arms from the 17th century onwards

  • Historical sewing machines and household appliances

  • Bicycles, mopeds and iconic motorcycles

  • Robotic lawnmowers and modern garden products

  • Workshop environments and interactive exhibitions

A place of both knowledge and respite

In addition to the interesting exhibitions, the Husqvarna Museum also offers a café and a small shop. Here you can sit down with a cup of coffee or a cool drink, perhaps accompanied by something sweet, while enjoying the sound of the roaring waterfall outside the window. The shop sells everything from books and posters to hats, t-shirts and other souvenirs.

The museum is adapted for all visitors with a spacious entrance, elevator, disabled-friendly facilities and parking near the main entrance. It's easy to get around - whatever your needs.

An industrial city emerges

A big part of the story at Husqvarna Museum is also about the people behind the machines. When Wilhelm Tham took over as director in 1877, the company was transformed into a modern, large-scale industry. He not only invested in new products - he also built schools, homes and churches for his workers. Huskvarna grew as a mill town, and Husqvarna became a company that influenced the whole community.

Walking through the museum is therefore also a journey through social change, entrepreneurship and Swedish social development.

Practical information and location

The museum is centrally located in Huskvarna, just a short drive from Jönköping. The area is scenic and invites for a walk after the museum visit - why not stroll through the old Smedbyn where the gunsmiths once lived, or peek at Slottsvillan, former director's residence?

Please note that there is an entrance fee to the museum and that guided tours are offered upon advance booking - however, not during the summer months of June, July and August.

The museum is open all year round, but you may want to check the opening hours on their website before you go.
